Helmingham Hall & Gardens

Visit the spectacular Grade 1 Listed Gardens, learn about the Tollemache family who have resided at Helmingham for many hundreds of years and The Hall that John Tollemache first started work on in 1480. The Park encloses 400 acres and has large herds of both red and fallow deer.

Visit the beautiful Church of St Mary, standing proud on the edge of the Park, it has existed since at least 1258.

The Mid-Suffolk Light Railway is Suffolk’s only standard gauge heritage railway, offering steam open days and events to the general public. Services are normally steam operated on both standard open days and special event days.

Museum of East Anglian Life

Set in 75 acres of Suffolk countryside, 17 historic buildings and almost 40,000 objects. Visit Abbot’s Hall, a Queen Anne manor house, which is original to the site. In the industrial zone you’ll find the Bone and Boby buildings and a blacksmiths workshop. Also visit the Alton Watermill, Great Moulton Chapel, the wind pump and a beautiful river and nature walk.

Stop off for a cup of tea at the Osier Cafe and the area known as Home Close, this contains Abbot’s Hall Barn, a 13th century bar.

Visit The Suffolk Owl Sanctuary for flying demonstrations and/or talks. A delightful place to visit and watch, study or simply enjoy the company of owls and other birds of prey.

From inside the Sanctuary take a leisurely stroll around and observe the beautiful birds close up, visit the Red Squirrels and Ferrets in the woodland walk, stop by at Meerkat Castle to watch them at feeding time.
